It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Tavalese, 79, wife of the late Edward Lucas, of Eustis, FL. Shirley, born in Pottstown, PA, departed this life on May 12, 2026, at the Phoenixville Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love and joy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.
Born to the late Samuel and Esther (Bodner) Tavalese, Shirley was a devoted and caring individual who found tremendous joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a passion for adventure, whether it was attending car shows in Carlisle or exploring the vibrant displays at the flower show. Her love for the great outdoors was evident in her cherished memories of camping at Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware, a place where she found peace and happiness.
Shirley's adventurous spirit took her across the globe, culminating in a remarkable 30-day journey throughout Europe and visits to breathtaking sites like the Grand Canyon. Her enthusiasm for life was reflected in her treasured collections of porcelain Indian dolls and Precious Moments dolls, each telling a story of their own.
Above all, Shirley's greatest passion was her family. She is survived by her beloved son Edward Lucas Jr. and companion Therese Makuch; her daughter Debbie Shabrach and her husband James Jr.; her dear brother Michael Tavalese and wife Raquel; as well as 12 wonderful grandchildren and six beautiful great-grandchildren. She held a special place in her heart for her pets, including her dog Pixie and her macaw parrot Gonzo, alongside memories of her late macaw parrot Taz.
Shirley is predeceased by her daughter Tammy Lucas.
A viewing will be held in her honor on Monday, May 18, 2026, from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Warker~Troutman Funeral Home Inc. in Pottstown. Following the viewing, a service celebrating Shirley's extraordinary life will commence at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
