It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one, Sheila Ann Mayes, age 59, a daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was born on April 30, 1964, to the late Junious and Alice Harris Mayes. Sheila transitioned to be with our Lord on Friday, September 1, 2023, at the end of a fantastic family vacation week in North Carolina.
Sheila was born and raised in Pottstown, PA, and educated within the Pottstown school system. She worked for many years at Stanley G. Flagg & Company, Inc., formerly in Stowe, PA. Sheila also worked for a long time as a Home Healthcare Aide in Pottstown, PA, and finally had her own private Daycare. Sheila moved to Delaware 18 years ago to help care for her sister Karen's newborn twins. She was a gentle and nurturing caregiver to all the families she supported over the years. One thing for sure is, she loved to help her family and loved kids! Sheila continued her residency in Delaware up until her passing. She will surely be missed, and her love and memories will carry on forever.
Sheila was a quiet and beautiful soul who had a big smile that could light up any room. She loved our Lord and Savior with all her heart. She was an artist who loved to draw much of the time. She enjoyed interior design and could make a home look absolutely spectacular. She loved a good movie or just binge-watching thriller & drama tv series. Sheila also liked fashion and music, and enjoyed hanging out with family, especially her five sisters. She was a huge fan of Janet and Michael Jackson; she loved their style & their music, as I'm sure almost everyone knew. Above all, she completely adored her children.
Sheila's family, whom she cherished, include her children, Anthony, Nickia, Roslynn "Latoya", Cartier (deceased), and Lamonte (deceased); Her twenty-five wonderful grandchildren: Junious, Marshelle, Roslyn, Justice, Alexis, Kishad, Anthony Jr., Amya, Amari, Ashanti, Aliya, Brianna, Elijah, Selena, Joseph, Callio, Nicholas, Nickia (deceased), Bella, Derrick, Makiah, Anyai, Amirah, Yasmine, and (Latoya's deceased child). She also has two handsome great-grandchildren Nikolai and Yasyn. Sheila lived for her family and their happiness. In addition to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Sheila is also survived by five sisters, Louise, Cecelia, Judy, Alice "Marie" and Karen; and three brothers, Larry, Herman, and David Sr. Two siblings preceded her in passing, Elmer, and Darlington. She also had a host of treasured nieces and nephews, cousins and good friends that loved her so much and will miss her forever.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Rhema "The Word Church" 543 Walnut Street, Pottstown, PA 19464. The Viewing begins at 9:30 am with the Homegoing Service beginning promptly at 11:00 am. Interment is at Second Baptist Church Cemetery.
