Richard Smale

Richard M. Smale, 72, of PottstownPA, beloved husband of Jane (Bukey) Smale, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, at his residence.

Rich was a son of the late Richard J. and June (HettrickSmale. He is predeceased by his brother James T. Smale. They are lovingly remembered by their sister, Maryann Smale and companion Nancy House.

Rich lived life with an open heart and gentle spirit. He found joy in simple things, music, the thrill of cheering on the Eagles and Philliesweather channel; and the serenity of tending to his garden each spring, where he cultivated his vegetables with care and dedication.

He graduated from Bloomsburg University after attending St. Francis College for two years. Upon graduating he worked at Pottstown Roller Mills, then became the Wholesale Candy Buyer at Cole Candy and Tobacco, ending his career as an Administrative Assistant for RC Smith Industries. Rich also worked several years for Boyertown YMCA Child Care in the after-school program for special children.

He had a deep connection with his family, often traveling to Maine to visit his sister, to Western Canada and Alaska, creating memories that will forever be treasured. Rich was also the proud and loving guardian of Mitzie, his catwhose companionship brought him much comfort.

He leaves behind a legacy of fond memories and love, remembered by his wife, sister and wide circle of friends. As we reflect on Rich's life let us carry his memory in our hearts, celebrating his kindness and the simple joys he cherished.
