Richard J. Havyer

Richard J." Sunshine" Havyer, 82, widower of Joanne (Safko) Havyer of North Evans Street, Pottstown, PA died Tuesday at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Born in Johnstown, PA , he was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Rhoads) Havyer. he was a 1948 graduate of Johnstown High School Mr. Havyer had first worked as a machinist for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Johnstown, PA. He was most known as a deliveryman for the Tastykake Company for thirty-five years. After Tastykake , he worked as a teachers assistant in the woodworking department and also drove school bus for the Pottstown School District for ten years. He also had worked delivering the Philadelphia Bulletin newspaper with his children in the area. Mr. Havyer also ran the U Needa Cabinet woodworking business. He was a member of St. Aloysius R.C.C. Beech & Hanover Streets Pottstown, PA . He was a third degree member of Father Bally Council # 1192 Knights of Columbus of Stowe, PA and a fourth degree member of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Assembly # 3046, Knights of Columbus of Stowe, PA . He was a member with his late wife Joanne of the former Newcomers Club of Pottstown. In his younger days he attended the major league spring training camp for umpire's in Florida and he was a semi-pro umpire for baseball for both men and women. He was a University of Pittsburgh Panther season ticket holder and an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He loved his children and grandchildren and as they have said loved life in general.. Surviving are five children Richard Jeffrey Havyer husband of Deborah of Pottstown, PA, Carol Ann wife of Fred Batdorf of Alsace Township, PA, Brian Joseph Havyer husband of Becky of Moon Towhship, PA, Leslie Ann Havyer with whom he resided in Pottstown, PA and Denise Ann Dreisbach of Boyertown, PA . Also six grandchildren Carly, Molly, Jenna, Timothy, Richard and Lindsey. A funeral service will be Saturday September 22, 2012 at Noon from Warker-Troutman Funeral Home 726 East High Street , Pottstown, PA with the Rev. Joseph L. Maloney, Pastor of St. Aloysius R.C.C. officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9 a.m. till noon at the funeral home.
