Mary Anne Burke, 91, passed away on April 27, 2026.
Mary Anne was the beloved wife of the late Richard Daniel Burke and the daughter of the late Florence and Richard Smale. She was raised in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and was a proud graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy and Rosemont College.
In her early years, Mary Anne embraced life as a devoted Navy wife, supporting her husband through his service before the family ultimately settled in Roslyn, and later in Wyncote, Pennsylvania.
Mary Anne took great joy in raising her family and was involved in her community. She was an active supporter of the Boy Scouts and an accomplished bowler. In quieter moments, she could often be found enjoying a good book, solving crossword puzzles, listening to Broadway show tunes, or watching classic films—activities that brought her lifelong pleasure.
Her commitment to nurturing young people was especially evident in her work with music education. Mary Anne began as a volunteer with the Bishop McDevitt High School Marching Unit and later served as the secretary for the Villanova University Music Activities Department, where she continued to support students with warmth and enthusiasm.
Mary Anne is survived by her loving children: Nora Burke Dissinger and her husband Charles of Brattleboro, Vermont; Brendan Burke and his wife Kathleen of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania; and Kara Woodall and her husband Noble of East Coventry, Pennsylvania. She was a cherished grandmother to Daniel Burke (Bethann), Kevin Burke (Courtney), Shannon Evans (Adam), Luke Loftinburke (Troy), Raeanna Woodall, Halle Rumer (Joseph), and Noble William Woodall, and a proud greatgrandmother to six greatgrandchildren.
She is also survived by her brothers, Richard Smale (Cecile) and Dennis Smale (Ly Thi), and her brother-in-law, Arthur Burke II.
In addition to her husband, Mary Anne was predeceased by her sisters-in-law, Sister Helen Burke, SSJ, and Mary Anne Burke.
