Leonard A. Pettine Sr., husband of Patricia D. (Bowen) Pettine, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2023, with his sons and wife by his side.
Born in 1934 in Norristown, PA. He was a son of Italian immigrants, the late Nicholas and Susine (Carcarey) Pettine.
He was the beloved husband of 67 years to his wife Pat, his adoring dance partner. Pat and Lenny, as he was affectionately called, were married at St. Aloysius church in 1956. He was a supportive and patient father to three sons, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In High School, Lenny played baseball, basketball and ran track. He received college basketball scholarships. He decided not to attend college but instead to help out the family while his father was terminally ill. Leonard served in the US Army 517th Artillery Division during the Korean War. Recipient of the Good Conduct Medal...awarded for exemplary behavior, efficiency and fidelity in active Federal Military service.
He played baseball on the US Army team for a time during his years of service. Leonard held supervisory positions at Robinson Clay Pipe Products Company in Pottstown and Cann and Saul Steel Company in Royersford. He was active in local politics, Pop Warner football, CYO Basketball, Little League Baseball, The Knights of Columbus, and other church activities. Leonard was instrumental in the founding; funding and the construction of St. Thomas More RC Church after the Archdiocese bifurcated the congregation at St. Al's. He was a regular Usher and Bingo worker at both churches.
Leonard loved animals, especially dogs and horses. His favorite activities were going to the horse races and visiting retired horses at local farms. Trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City were his preferred destinations. Leonard enjoyed all sporting events. Penn State Football, Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles were his favorites.
Along with his wife, Leonard is survived by his sons; Leonard A. Pettine Jr., (Dee), Christopher J. Pettine (Heidi), David R. Pettine (Sally), brother, Robert Pettine, Grandchildren; Nathaniel Pettine, Daniel Pettine, Christopher Pettine, Samuel Pettine, Rebekah Pettine, Ethan Pettine, Madison Pettine, Colin Pettine and Morgan Pettine, great grandchildren; Donovan Pettine and Francesca Pettine.
Leonard is predeceased by his siblings; Charles Pettine, Vincent Pettine, Dolores Bierworth and Marguerite Bowers.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at St. Aloysius R.C. Church, Pottstown, from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Military Honors will be held at the Church after Mass.
