Katherine D. Lehman

Katherine D. (Doering) Lehman, 85, wife of the loving Charles M. Lehman, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023. Kathy was a daughter of the late John and Katherine (Boggess) Doering.

Kathy was born near Pittsburgh and moved with her family to eastern PA, Delaware and South Dakota. She was a graduate of The Academy of the New Church high school in Bryn Athyn, PA, Northwestern University, and the University of Pennsylvania where she earned a degree in nursing. She obtained specialties in school nursing and psychiatric nursing, and earned a master's degree in education.

While working as a public health nurse, she met her husband, Charles. Kathy and Charles lived in Lititz, Pennsylvania and Frederick, Maryland, before finally settling in Upper Pottsgrove township in Pottstown, PA which they called home for fifty years.

Kathy had a long career in nursing, eventually retiring as a school nurse in the Great Valley school district, but she also loved to be involved in her community. She served for several years as a member of the Pottsgrove School Board and was an active volunteer at the Pottstown Library for many years. Kathy always had a jigsaw puzzle partially assembled at home as she diligently, and with enthusiasm, verified that every puzzle donated to the library had all its pieces before being sold. An avid reader, she loved helping the Friends of the Pottstown Library at their Book Nook and with their book sales, often purchasing a bag or two of books for herself!

Kathy greatly enjoyed singing and was an active member of the Ringing Hills Chorus, the Pottstown chapter of the Sweet Adelines, for 30 years. She performed with the chorus several times a year and was blessed to share the joy of music with her husband, Charles. Kathy and Charles attended numerous Barbershop music shows and competitions around the country and the world. They enjoyed any opportunity to sing a song together and their kids and grandkids looked forward every year to the harmonious renditions of Happy Birthday over the phone.

Kathy embraced retirement with active participation in the local chapter of the AARP and fun-filled gatherings with her friends at the local Red Hats society, the Sassy Scarlets. She and Charles traveled whenever they could, learning new things in every locale, and making new friends on Road Scholar trips. While she relished completing a challenging Sudoku puzzle on her own, she also loved to spend time with Charles attending live theater in Lancaster, and watching sports and Hallmark movies.

She was a wonderful Grandmom to her four grandchildren, enthralling them with delightful stories and answering every question with loving attention. She and Charles were enthusiastic supporters of countless sporting events and dance, music, drama, and musical theatre productions over the years, dutifully purchasing some of whatever the grandkids were selling for their school, their dance group, or their scout troop. Kathy was even able to live that memorable dream of going to Disney with the whole crazy bunch of husband, kids and grandkids!

Along with her husband, Katherine is also survived by her children, Curt E. Lehman (wife Suzanne) and Cassandra L. Lehman (companion Ephraim Luzon), siblings Barbara Riley (husband Bill), John Doering (wife Christina), Jim Doering (wife Linda), and grandchildren Emily Guihard-Ramirez (husband Ish), Jessica Lehman, Gabe Lehman, and Vivian Lehman.

A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Kathy on Saturday, February 17th, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Pottstown Regional Public Library, 500 E. High Street, Pottstown, PA 19464.
