Judith A Astle

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Judith Anne (Mullen) Astle on August 1, 2026, who leaves behind a life devoted to faith, family, and education.

Born to June O. Rodgers and Joseph Mullen in 1941, Judith was a graduate of St. Pius X High School and went on to earn her B.A. in History from Our Lady of Angels College (now Neumann University) and additional credits from Villanova University. Upon completing her education, Judith answered the call to religious life. She served as a dedicated nun from 1960 to 1976, devoting sixteen years of faithful service to her church and community.

While a member of the convent, Judith worked as an elementary school teacher in various schools in Philadelphia, Allentown, Lehighton, Chester and Whitehall.

Shortly after leaving the convent, Judith continued her love of education and began teaching at St. Gabiel's Elementary School in Stowe, PA. She later moved to Florida in 1981, where she taught at Orange City School in Orange City, FL and Manatee Cove Elementary School until her retirement. Her dedication to her students and to teaching was recognized when she was named Teacher of the Year for 2000-2001.

Judy cherished her family and treasured the time they spent together. She especially looked forward to visits home to Pottstown for Christmas, family weddings, and Sisters Week with JoAnn and MaryAnn-occasions that brought her great joy and created lasting memories.

In addition to her parents, Judith was preceded in death by siblings Joseph Mullen Jr., Joann Mullen (Larry) Cruise, and Michael R. Mullen. Judy's memory will live on through Robbie Mullen and Mary Ann Mullen Shirey (Ernest), and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews and cousins.

Judy will be remembered for her kindness, her dedication to her students, her commitment to family, and the many lives she touched throughout her years as a teacher and friend.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Columbkill Church in Boyertown, PA on August 29, 2026. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am with interment to follow at St. Aloysius New Cemetery in Pottstown, PA.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well lived and a woman who gave so much of herself to others.
