Joseph F. Coleman, 92, husband of Joan C. (Gomen) Coleman of Walden Court , Limerick, PA and formerly of South Philadelphia, St. Edmonds Parish died Wednesday June 1, 2011 at his residence. Born in South Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph I. and Nora (Sheehan) Coleman. Mr. Coleman had worked as a machinist for General Steel of Philadelphia for 20 years and then as a machinist for Westinghouse for 25 years. He was a U.S. Coast Guard Veteran of World War II. Mr. Coleman was a member of Father Bally Council #1192, Knights of Columbus, The Ancient order of Hibernians and a former member of the Holy Name Society of Notre Dame De Lourdes in Swarthmore, PA In his younger days, Mr. Coleman was a boxer. First as an amateur and then Semi-Pro in Philadelphia . In the service he participated in boxing matches to entertain the troops. He was an avid Phillies fan. He was a devoted Husband and father. Surviving with his wife is a son Joseph Coleman husband of Elizabeth of Langhorne, PA and a daughter Kathleen wife of John Eckley of Gilbertsville, PA and seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a daughter Maureen Coleman. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Blessed Teresa of Calcutta R.C.C. 1228 Main Street , Linfield, PA on Saturday June 4, 2011 at 11 A.M. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery Yeadon, PA A viewing will be Saturday from 9:30 – 11 A.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
