John M Urban

John M. Urban, 88, LT. COL. USAF RET. Col Urban, husband of the late Sonia (Cimbalista) Urban folded his Wings on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at his residence.

Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna (Parvensky) Urban. He graduated from St. Procopius College Academy in 1950 and attended St. Procopius College for two years. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and completed Basic Training and Radio Operator Training. He then was assigned to Aviation Cadet School. After graduating, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and rated as a Navigator/Bombardier/Radar Operator. He then served as a Combat Crewmember in the B-47 bomber aircraft. He also served as an Instructor at the Navigator Training School.

His next assignment was as a Combat Crew Commander and Sector Commander in the Titan II Missile System. After that, he served as a Navigator in the EB-66 aircraft in Vietnam where he flew 109 Combat Missions. During this tour he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals. Col Urban completed his Air Force career as the Alert Force Manager of the FB-111 and KC-135 Aircraft. He attained the ratings of Master Navigator and Senior Missilier and retired in 1972.

After retirement from the Air Force, he held several civilian positions such as Vice President/General Manager of Paval Associates of Philadelphia. Col Urban was a member of the Military Officers Association of America, 91st Strategic Wing Association, B-66 Destroyer Association and is a Disabled American Veteran.

He is survived by two sons, Stephen (wife Theresa), David (wife Kara), and daughter Carolyn (Mel) Roberts. Also, grandchildren Stephen, Brendan, Shaun, Katelyn and Kyler Urban and Kimberly Roberts. Four great grandchildren, Rylee, Mason, Fiona and Shane Urban. A sister, Helen (Paul) Shoemaker Jr.

A Celebration of Life visitation will be held Friday, September 3, 2021 from 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. at St. Aloysius Church in the Gathering Center. Mass will follow at 11 A.M. Interment will be private at Indiantown National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
