John M. Slobodin

John M. Slobodin, 88, husband of Sophie (Lengyel) Slobodin of North Adams Street, Pottstown, PA died Saturday at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Michael and Catherine (Berkeschuk) Slobodin. Mr. Slobodin had worked as a tire builder for the former Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. of Pottstown, PA for thirty –four years. He then worked for Occidental Chemical , also, formerly of Pottstown, PA for three and a half years before his retirement in 1984. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars and the North End Fire Co. he was also an avid bowler. Surviving with his wife is a son Dennis J. Slobodin of Pottstown, PA and two daughters Deborah M. Slobodin of Pottstown, PA and Shirley Ann Slobodin of Stowe, PA. Also surviving is a brother William Slobodin of Sanatoga, PA and a sister Nellie Bakay of Coventry Manor Nursing Home. He is pre-deceased by two sisters Mary Nestorick and Anne Pachik. A Funeral Liturigy will be celebrated in St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic church on Friday September 30, 2011 at 10 A.M. with the Rev. Mykola Ivanov, Pastor officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church Cemetery, Pottstown, PA. A viewing will be Friday from 8:30 – 9:30 A.M. from Warker-Troutman Funeral Home 726 East High Street Pottstown, PA with Parastas services at 9:15 A.M.
