John Edward Matalavage

John Edward Matalavage, 74, of Rockwood, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 6, 2020. John was born May 6, 1946, in Shenandoah, PA to John E. Matalavage, Sr. and Frances C. Piaskowski. He attended St. Pius X High School through his Junior year and went on to graduate from Pottstown Senior High School. In addition to his parents hi is preceded in death by his wife, SandraSchiefley; and grandson Joshua. John is survived by his son, John E. Matalavage III and daughter Kathryn (Scott) Sanner. He is survived by his grandchildren, Jordan and Ryan Sanner; and siblings: Daniel of Pottstown, Francis of Pottstown, Gerald of Norristown, Mary Alice Bodick of Kimberton, Arlene Mentzer of Texas, Donna Marie Montesano of Boyertown, Cynthia Marnell of Pottstownand Robert of Pottstown. He is also survived by brother-in-law Raymond (Bud) Schiefley and wife Debbie and numerous loving nieces and nephews. John was an avid fisherman and hunter who also coached Little League baseball for the VFW for many years.Despite living in western Pennsylvania, he endured being a supporter of all the Philadelphia sports teams especially the Eagles. John retired from the Dana Corporation after three decades of loyal service. He was a lifetime member of the Rockwood American Legion Post # 279 and served on the board of trustees. John was a U.S. Army veteran who was drafted during the Vietnam conflict and was stationed in Germany. He will be sadly missed by many friends and family and those who were subjected to his sense of humor. A memorial funeral Mass will be held in St. Aloysius R.C.C. on Wednesday September 2, 20020 at 11 A.M. The family will receive friends in the Gathering Center of St. Aloysius R.C.C. on Wednesday from 9:30-11 A.M. Interment with military honors will be in St. Aloysius New Cemetery, Lower Pottsgrove Township. Warker-Troutman Funeral Home, 726 E. High St., Pottstown, PA is in charge of arrangements.
