John Galamba

John Galamba, 98, husband of the late Lois V. (Phoebus) Galamba, passed away in California with his family from California by his side.

He was a son of the late George and Elizabeth (Bondola) Galamba.

John was born at home on Easter on April 12, 1925. He joined Boy Scouts when he was 11 years old and attended council meetings till, he was 93 years old. John joined the United States Navy in 1942 where he served in WWII from 1942 till 1946. He was a radio man on the USS Barnstable. He earned the American Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon (two stars), Pacific Theater Ribbon (four stars), and Victory Medal. After war, John was in the reserves till 1954. After being honorably discharged, John married Lois, the love of his life on January 10, 1953; they had four children.

He worked at Bethlehem Steel as a welder for 30 years and had own typewriter repair business where he would work from home for over 30 years. As an adult he was awarded the Scout Master Silver Bearer award, the James E. West Award of Merit and he was a Vigil recipient in the Order of Arrow. John also took a crew of Scouts to the Philmont High Adventure experience and in later years he went as a trail guide. He was also a member of the Pilgrimage Committee.

John was a member of the Falcon Club, Holy Trinity Club and a lifetime member of St. John's the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church.

He is survived by his children: Kathy L. Hamaker (Michael), Sarah "Sally" J. Sweisford (Skif), Mark S. Galamba (Carolyn), John W. Galamba, a sister, Irene Horosky, 13 grandchildren, many great grandchildren. Also, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great great nieces and great great great nephews.

John is predeceased by his siblings: George S Galamba, Joseph T. Galamba, Mary E. Pawlezicz and Margaret Foley.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Byzantine Church, Pottstown. PA or Boy Scouts of America.

Services will be private for family.
