John J. Duke

John J. Duke, 88, widower of Theresa K. (Kovach) Duke of Royersford, PA died Friday February 21, 2014 at Phoenixville Hospital. Born in Pottstown, PA, he was the son of the late John A. and Anna (Bayus) Duke. John was an inspector for the former Bethlehem Steel Corporation of Pottstown for 30 years. He then worked in the environmental services department of Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. John served in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific theatre during World War II as a machinist mate second class aboard the U.S.S. Foote. He was a member of St. Joseph's R.C.C., 3640 Schuylkill Road, Spring city, PA . He was also a member of the American Legion and the Liberty Steam Fire Engine Co. #1 both of Spring City, PA . He was a proud member of the U.S.S. Foote DD511 Association, attending many reunions. Surviving is a son Tim Duke and two daughters Sandy wife of Scott Turner and Paula Mihalick. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Kelly wife of Jim Miller, Chris Mihalick husband of Kole, Erin wife of Eric Frost, Jenna Mihalick and Patrick Turner husband of Amber. Also, seven great-grandchildren; Julia, Sean, Kerry, Owen, Kaydence, Chase and Autumn. John is also pre-deceased by sisters Dolores Ottaviano and Dorothy Kopystecki. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph R.C.C., Spring City, PA on Tuesday February 25, 2014 at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Stowe, PA. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 10-11 A.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in John's name to the Phoenixville Hospital Cancer Center 140 Nutt Road Phoenixville, PA 19460.
