Joan E. Mooney

Joan E. (Tighe) Mooney, 86, of Hershey, PA passed away on August 16, 2020 at Country Meadows in Hershey, PA.  She was the wife of the late Albert J. Mooney married on November 5, 1955.  Joan was born in Pottstown, PA, on July 22nd, 1934.  She leaves behind five children, Jerome B. Mooney of Fremont, NC, Lawrence D. Mooney, wife Linda, Geigertown, PA, Marie T. Velosky, husband Greg, Ashburn, VA, Joanne D. Miller, husband Jerry, Campbelltown, PA and Kathleen A. Mooney, State College, PA; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  Predeceased by her sister, Caroline A. Mulligan and brother Dennis A. Tighe III.  She was the daughter of the late Dennis A. Tighe, Jr. and Caroline A. (Heil) Tighe. Joan graduated from the Pottstown Hospital School of Nursing in 1955 and served as secretary to her nursing class.  She worked at VFAH as a civilian nurse and a staff nurse at PMMC.  While at PMMC she became manager of the Maternity and women's health Center, OB Clinic.  Joan was in the childbirth program at PMMC and was also the Coordinator and Childbirth Educator of Childbirth Classes where she worked from 1959 to 1994.  After retiring from PMMC, Joan worked at St. Aloysius Church in Finance, Registration, and the Cemetery Department.  She also was the recording secretary for 12 years at St. Aloysius Senior Citizens.  Joan was the past president of PMMC nursing alumni and volunteered at PMMC, serving on the Volunteen Committee and Instructor to Volunteens.  Joan was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Aloysius for 6 years before moving to Country Meadows, a retirement community in Hershey, PA. Joan will be fondly remembered for her positive attitude, work ethic, sense of humor, strong faith, and love for her family. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Aloysius R.C.C., 223 Beech St., Pottstown, PA on Thursday August 20, 2020 at Noon.  The viewing will be held in the Church's Gathering Center prior to the Mass from 11 - Noon.  Interment will be in St. Aloysius New Cemetery, Lower Pottsgrove township.
