James P. Strobel, 85, widower of Barbara A (Kotcher) Strobel and beloved father of nine children, passed away December 16, 2021. He and Barbara had been married for 54 years.
Jim was born in Allentown, PA, and was the son of the late Leopold and Eleanor (Krenn) Strobel. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and Muhlenberg College. He was enlisted in the Army and stationed in El Paso, TX from 1959-1961 where he was an OSWD (Office of Special Weapons Development) specialist. He was assigned to formulate information to assist down range officers in pinpointing enemy targets. Jim was a member of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Pottstown and had been a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus since 1959. Jim enjoyed coaching and umpiring his children's Little League games and also watching his grandchildren play their various sports. He also loved watching Notre Dame football games.
Surviving are his brother, Edward, and his children: Christopher (Stephanie), of Barto; Regina (John) Ferry, of Roslyn; Laura (Don) D'Agostino, of Sanatoga; Andrew (Sherri), of Pilesgrove, NJ; Jennifer (Eric) Reigner, of Gilbertsville; Nancy Henry, of Boyertown; Stephen, of Pottstown; James Jr. (Devon), of Reading, and Barbara (Forrest) Jacobs, of Birdsboro. He also has 21 grandchildren: Stacy, Tucker, Christina, Mikey, Timmy, Johnny, Matthew, Eric, Julia, Nick, Alex, Evan, Kyle, Andrew, Alexa, Brenna, Mackenzie, Jacob, Corbin, Kaydence and Renley.
Along with his parents, Jim was predeceased by siblings Eleanor Dietz, Raymond, Walter, Irene Kutish, Margaret Bearish and Marie Embon.
Friends may call from 9:30 A.M. to 11 A.M. on Monday, December 27, 2021 at St. Aloysius R.C. Church Gathering Center, 223 Beech Street, Pottstown. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 A.M.
Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery located at St. Mary's Church Circle Drive and Poplar Street, Catasauqua, PA 18032.
