James E Smale

James E. Smale Jr, 81, husband of Marlene (Weidner) Smale, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at the Phoenixville Hospital.

He was a son of the late James and Mary (O'Brien) Smale Sr.

Jim attended the Hill School for one year and completed high school at St. Pius X. He attended Villanova University for 1 year, then served in the US Army with Honorable Discharge in 1964.

He has been a pillar of the Pottstown community for 58 years. He worked with Levitz Furniture Co., was a private pilot, Certified Flight Instructor (CFI, CFII), Civil Air Patrol, Partner/Owner of RF Smale & Company, van driver for Keystone Villas, student van driver for CMD. Jim was a long time member of Pottstown Borough Council and subsequently President of that Council. He was a retired EMT with Goodwill Fire Company, President of Goodwill Fire Co, President of Montgomery County EMS, Captain of Pottstown Fire Police and PA State Constable. He was honored as 2021 Citizen of the Year by the Pottstown Elks Club.

Jim was a legacy in Pottstown and will be greatly missed by his family, Goodwill Fire Co. family, and the community.

Along with his loving wife Marlene, James is survived by a daughter Colleen M. Smale (Sarasota, FL) and brother Brian Smale (Vermont). Mother-in-Law Virginia Weidner, sisters-in-law Donna, Darlene and Arlene, brothers-in-law David and Thomas, nieces and nephews Guy, Melissa, Lisa, Mason, Logan, Dylan and Charlie.

He is predeceased by a son James E. Smale III and a brother Robert Smale.

A viewing will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022 from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. at the Warker~Troutman Funeral Home Inc, located at 726 E. High St, Pottstown. A service will follow at 1 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Burial will be in St. Aloysius New Cemetery, Pottstown.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in James' name to Goodwill Fire Company located at 714 E High St, Pottstown, Pennsylvania 19464 or Mainline Animal Rescue located at 1149 Pike Springs Rd, Chester Springs, PA 19425.
