Jack Floyd Artz, formerly of Pottstown passed away on November 12 at Manor Care in Sinking Spring. Born in Reading on July 29, 1926, to the late Clarence B. and Naomi E. (Floyd) Artz, he is survived by a daughter, Kim A. Artz, Reading and brothers Eugene W., Reading and Robert C. (Maureen), Peachtree City, GA. He was predeceased by his wife Rafeal M. (Calvario) and a brother Kenneth B. Artz. Jack was a 1944 graduate of Muhlenberg High School. He was a World War II veteran of the US Army Air Corps. Mr. Artz attended classes at Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute and independently studied carpentry and electronics. He completed 43 years of work at U.S. Axle Co, retiring as the Chief Engineer. Mr. Artz was a well-read, analytical thinker. Solving cryptograms was part of his daily routine. He stayed informed on current events and was an avid participant in group debates. Known for his determination, he sought truth in every aspect of his life. Jack was proud of staying active in golf, tennis, skiing, hiking, and traveling. Until recently, his discipline included exercises and walking several miles per day. He participated for many years in the U.S. national Senior Games, PA State Senior Games, and the Montgomery County Senior Games, where we was twice awarded Athlete of the Year. He camped and hiked in all 50 states and every Canadian province, and traveled to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Europe. In his 60's he hiked Mt. Washington in New Hampshire and most of the Appalachian Trail between Maryland and Maine. Mr. Artz served as a member of the Man to Man Cancer Support Group at Pottstown Hospital for over 20 years. Funeral Services will be held Thursday Noberber 17 at 12 noon at the Warker-Troutman Funeral Home 726 High St. Pottstown. Burial will be in St. Aloysius New Cemetery. A viewing will be held Thursday morning from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jack's name to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508.
