Gerald E. "Flattop" Spaar, Sr., 74, Husband pf Elsie Mae (Moyer) Spaar of Pottstown, passed away Saturday, June 12th, 2004 in Pottstown Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Sadly, Elsie Mae Spaar passed June 27th, 2021.
Born in Boyertown, he was the son of the late Mary (Bolton) and Arlan Geisinger, his stepfather.
Mr. Spaar worked for 36 years for Firestone Occidental of Pottstown, and later opened the Flattop and Son Cleaning Service, retiring in 1995.
Mr. Spaar served in the Army Air Corp from 1947 to 1950 at home and overseas.
He was a member of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church of Pottstown.
Mr. Spaar was a member of Holy Trinity Club of Pottstown and belonged to most of the clubs in the area.
He was an avid bowler, competing alongside the best bowlers in the area, and he occasionally traveled around the country to compete.
Mr. Spaar is survived by one daughter, Wanda, wife of the late Barry Yeager, Sr. of Pottstown; one son, Gerald E. Spaar, Jr., husband of Connie of Pottstown; three grandsons, Barry Yeager, Jr., husband of Tricia, Brian Yeager and Dustin Zangrilli; one granddaughter, Christy Zangrilli; five great grandchildren, Jordyn Yeager, Reese and Sienna Yeager, Sorrel Zangrilli and Mykah Yeager; one great great granddaughter, Sawyer Shaffer and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Wilbert Sharp and Richard Geisinger and one sister, Helen Geisinger.
A short memorial service will take place in St. Aloysius Cemetery, 800 Buchert Rd., Pottstown, PA 19464 on
Saturday, August 7th at 11:30 a.m. and will be a casual affair followed by a luncheon for all who would like to attend and celebrate Utch and Flatty's life as their ashes are placed together in their columbarium. Warker-Troutman Funeral Home, Inc, Pottstown is honored to serve the family.
