Evan Joseph Jones

Evan "Johnny" Joseph Jones, 87, of Pottstown, PA, passed on to the Lord on Monday, 8/3/2015, after an extensive illness. Born on 6/6/1928, in Shamokin, PA, he was the son of the late Margaret (Lobb) Jones and Clarence Leroy Jones. He was a graduate of Shamokin Area High School and he was a veteran of the United States Army having been stationed in Camp Carson, Colorado, during the Korean War. After being Honorably Discharged from the Army, Johnny married Florence Masiak of Shamokin, PA, and they settled in Royersford, PA, where they were members of Sacred Heart parish in Royersford, PA. More recently, he was a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta parish, Schwenksville, PA. He worked for Milprint Corporation, a preservative food packaging company, for 30 years as an extruder operator, and later Reynolds Metals and Alcoa, after their purchase of Milprint's Downingtown, PA, plant. He enjoyed dining out at the Coventry Café and especially a competitive game of billiards, 8 ball, or 9 ball, and he was a member of several local pool leagues in the greater Pottstown area. He also was a member of the local American Legion, Moose, VFW Post 780, the Coal Crackers Club of Shamokin, and the West End Fire Company in Shamokin, PA. His hobbies were shooting pool, vacationing with his extended family at Knoebels in Elysburg, PA, and snowbirding in Pinellas Pines, Florida, during the winter months of his retirement years. He is survived by his (2) children, Richard Michael Jones, husband of LeeAnn Jones, of Scranton, PA, and Gina (Jones) Custer, wife of James Custer, East Coventry Twp, PA; he has (6) grandchildren, Matthew Curtis Jones, Frederick, MD, Rebekah Ellen (Jones) Rauch, Montrose, PA, Ryan Joseph Jones, Scranton, PA, Sarah Lenore Jones, Scranton, PA, Kyle Jonathan Custer, Pittsburgh, PA, and Katie Elizabeth (Custer) Arnold, Boyertown, PA, as well as three (3) great-grandchildren, Lily Mae Rauch, Zachary Curtis Rauch, and Everett Orville Jones. He is also survived by his only brother, Larry Jones,Rome, NY, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by (2) sisters, Emma Jones, and Margaret "Peggy" (Jones) Pellish. The family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Naegle, the medical staffs at Phoenixvill Hospital and Seasons Hospice, and especially his private duty nurse, Florence Harris, of LifeForce, for their comfort and care of Johnny. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Blessed Teresa of Calcutta R.C.C., 256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville, PA on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 11 A.M. A viewing will be held from 9:30 – 10:45 A.M. Friday at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta R.C.C. prior to the Mass. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
