Elizabeth V. Schalata, peacefully passed away on January 18, 2026, at the Wyomissing Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 93. Born on April 9, 1932, in St. Peters, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Esther (Smith) Hartman.
She was a graduate of Dobbins High School, Philadelphia, where she completed a program as a beautician. In early years, she was employed at several salons in the city, and also worked the lunch counter at Woolworth's, Pottstown.Elizabeth was a devoted homemaker who loved her family and enjoyed the time spent with her many friends in the Pottstown area. She also enjoyed sharing stories from the past, especially growing up in St.Peters Village during the depression and later in Philadelphia.
A talented crocheter, Elizabeth delighted in the art of making afghans, and other craft items with yarn. In addition, she kept fit with a ritual of walking most days from her home on the East End of Pottstown to the downtown area.A proud member of the former A George A. Amole Post American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Elizabeth carried a spirit of community and service with her late husband, Thomas E. Schalata Sr., who was also deeply involved in area Veterans organizations. The couple travelled abroad on many adventures, including 14 memorable trips to Europe, such as England, France, Italy, Germany and Spain. Their tours normally involved many historic World War 2 sites.
Elizabeth's legacy lives on in her beloved children: Thomas E. Schalata Jr. and his wife Donna; Valerie Jean Schalata; and Marianne E. Davis and her husband James. She will be lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who were fortunate to know her kindness and warmth.
Elizabeth is predeceased by her siblings: William Hartman, Charles Hartman, George Hartman, Nellie Rightnour, Sarah Kostek, and Veronica Hartman.
Her gentle spirit and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 from 10a.m. till 11a.m. at the Warker~Troutman Funeral Home Inc, Pottstown. A service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in St. Aloysius New Cemetery.
