David P. Smola, 81, of Boyertown, PA, beloved husband of Margaret "Peggy" (Siegrist) Smola, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenburg. He was a cherished son of the late Stanley and Helen (Gladek) Smola.
David's journey was one filled with love and passion. He met his soulmate, Peggy, at Pottstown Judo Club, where he earned his black belt, a testament to his dedication and discipline. Together, they cultivated a life rich with shared interests, from reading science fiction to enjoying the theater, where evenings out were filled with laughter and connection. David's culinary talents shone in the kitchen, and he found joy in baking, creating delicious treats for family and friends.
An active participant in his sons' lives, David was deeply involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, creating memories that would last a lifetime. David was also an active member in Knights of Columbus where he held the position of a 4th Degree Knight. His spirit of community extended to over 20 years of volunteering with Peggy at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, where their love for the arts flourished. David also took pride in his hobbies of crochet and needlepoint, showcasing a creativity that was as vibrant as his personality. He was especially fond of his Boxer dogs, who brought endless joy to his days.
David will be lovingly remembered by his wife Peggy and their three sons: Michael Smola (Caitlin), Stephen Smola (Amanda), and John Smola (Kelly), brother-in-law C. Edger Opperman III He leaves behind five wonderful grandchildren: Darian, Evelyn, Jaedyn, A.J., and Taylor, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and love. He is also survived by his sister-in-law's, Mary Ann Smola, Sandra Miskavich, Sheryl Opperman and Numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of David's life will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at St. Aloysius Gathering Center, Pottstown where family and friends will gather to honor the many joyful memories, from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. A Mass will begin at 11 a.m. in the Church.
In this time of reflection, we remember David not with sorrow, but with a celebration of the warmth, love, and laughter he brought to our lives. He will be missed, but his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
Inurnment will follow Mass in St. Aloysius New Cemetery, Pottstown
Donations in David's name may be made to St. Aloysius Church or St. Aloysius School.
