Charles "Chuck" E. Klaus, 85 of Upper Pottsgrove, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. He was the husband of Margaret "Peg" (Dindino) Klaus. Born in Philadelphia, February 18, 1927, he was the son of the late Paul and Ethel (Rhine) Klaus. Chuck was raised in Pottstown and was a 1945 graduate of Pottstown High School, where he was an outstanding member of the PHS basketball and track teams. He was a member of St. Aloysius R.C.C in Pottstown. He was a former member of the Maria Assunta Lodge, Pottstown. A U.S Army veteran of World War II. He served in Germany, where he witnessed the historical Nuremberg War Trials, as well as climbed the Alpspitze Mountains. Following his tour of duty, he spent four years in the Pennsylvania National Guard. He attended Wagner College in New York, and Ursinus College in Collegeville. He worked for Doehler Jarvis, General Electric (during the space program years), Mrs. Smith's Pie Company, and retired from Dana Corporation. Chuck was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. "Chuck" to his wife and friends, "Dad" to his two sons, and "Poppy" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he will be greatly missed for his humor,wisdom,and amazing stories. In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by twin sons, Karl Klaus, husband of Theresa (Schurr), of Upper Pottsgrove, and Kurt Klaus, husband of Susan (Wassiluk), of Douglassville, and a sister Catherine Shelly of Audubon. He has six grandchildren: Jennifer, wife of Kyle Heffernan, Kyle Klaus, Jessica, wife of Matthew Breidenbach, Corey Klaus, Kari Klaus and Chloe Klaus, and three great-grandchildren; Abigail and Peyton Breidenbach, and Zachary Heffernan. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Smith and Elsie Norton. He was pre-deceased by three brothers: Santa Paul Klaus, Frank Klaus, and Curtis Klaus. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday at Warker-Troutman Funeral Home, 726 East High Street, Pottstown, PA. Officiating will be the Rev. Joseph L. Maloney. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday morning from 10 - noon.
