Charles Gilroy

Charles (Chuck) L. Gilroy, 83, husband of the late Patricia Gilroy, passed away on Sunday September 13, 2026, at Manatawny Manor surrounded by his loving family. Born in Johnstown Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Charles and Loretta (Reed) Gilroy.

Chuck was a 1961 graduate of Johnstown Catholic High School where he was a starting forward on the 1960 State basketball championship team.

Shortly after high school, Chuck enlisted in the United States Air Force and served at Travis Air Force Base in California as a Military Police Officer until his honorable discharge in 1966.

After the military, Chuck began working in several different steel mills in the area including Phoenix Steel. After the steel mills closed, Chuck began working on the docks of the Delaware River as a longshoreman until his retirement from full-time work in 2016. After his retirement from full-time work in 2016, Chuck did continue to work part time as a security guard at Pottstown Hospital and for the Owen J. Roberts School District for many years.

Chuck was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Limerick where he served as a past Sunday School teacher and youth group leader.

Chuck leaves behind his memories to be cherished and remembered by his children: Scott Gilroy (wife Desiree) Kelly Owens (husband Kevin) Kevin Gilroy, Chris Gilroy (wife Heather) 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, his sister Catherine, wife of the late Frank Corman and brother Patrick James Gilroy husband of Carole, along with many nieces and nephews and everyone who called him "Dad or Pop" . He treated everyone like they were one of his children and loved everyone dearly.

A funeral will take place for Chuck on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 11a.m. at Saint James Lutheran Church, 93 Kugler Road, Limerick PA 19468. A visitation will be held prior to service at the church from 9a.m. till 11a.m.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Penn Medicine, Abramson Cancer Center, 3535 Market Street, Suite 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
