Carmela Smith

Carmela Smith, 90, of Pottstown, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 in the Rehab at Shannondell. She was the loving wife of the late Lawrence R. Smith. Sadly, Lawrence passed away in 1980.

Born on July 17, 1931 in San Pietro Avellana, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Alberto and Maria (Vitullo) DiSanza.

Carmela was a member of the former St. Peter's Church on South St. and then joined St. Aloysius Church on Beech St. She was employed for over 20 years as a seamstress for Sunset Manufacturing. Later she was employed with Osan in Boyertown for 10 years before she retired.

She enjoyed music, dancing and singing. She looked forward to her trips to Aruba but most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her great grandchildren.

Surviving is her son, Anthony A. Smith and his wife, Deborah A. (Booz) Smith of Pottstown; two grandchildren, Matthew L. Smith and his wife, Ashley M. (Wise) Smith of Wallingford and Mark D. Smith of Bridgeport and two great grandchildren, Lucas Anthony and Dominic Robert Smith at home.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lawrence, Carmela is predeceased by her daughter, Anna Marie Smith, with whom she resided and a brother, Armando DiSanza.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am on Monday, August 16, 2021 in St. Aloysius Church, 223 Beech St., Pottstown, PA 19464. A viewing will be in the Gathering Center at St. Aloysius Church on Monday from 10 to 11am. Carmela will be laid to rest beside Lawrence in St. Aloysius (New) Cemetery, 800 Buchert Rd., Pottstown, PA 19464.
